      • Building a more equal and prosperous African digital future

        Coalition for Digital Equality (CODE) is a network connecting local and global stakeholders to collaborate in addressing the digital gender divide and drive sustainable economic growth in Africa.

         

        Starting in Uganda and Ghana, CODE connects African innovation hubs, digital skills initiatives, Small and Medium-sized Businesses (SMBs), impact investors and policy makers with UK academic and industry partners.

         

        Our mission is to build a more equal and prosperous African digital future by:

        • Connecting and enabling knowledge-sharing between digital ecosystem stakeholders in Uganda, Ghana, UK and globally
        • Co-creating solutions to increase African women's digital inclusion and economic empowerment
        • Catalysing cross-sector collaboration to unlock inclusive digital growth opportunities
        The network was established as part of an 18-month project " Bridging the Digital Gender Divide to Stimulate Growth in African Digital Economies" funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF)

        We are delighted to announce the release of a policy brief on Bridging the Gender Digital Divide in Uganda. The policy recommendations in this brief are based on the "Bridging the Digital Gender Divide to Stimulate Growth in African Digital Economies" project, an 18-month research project.

        The Coalition for Digital Equality (CODE) network composed of stakeholders in the participating countries was established under the project.

        Winners Announced For The 2021 Digital Equality Award

         
         

        Coalition for Digital Equality (CODE), a network connecting local and international stakeholders to address the digital gender divide and drive sustainable economic growth in Africa, has announced winners for the Digital Equality Awards.

         

        The Digital Equality Awards aim to recognise the achievements of individuals in Ghana and Uganda who are working to push the boundaries of digital inclusion and transformation in Africa.

        Insights from academia on Bridging the Digital Gender Divide in Africa

         

        The panel on “Bridging the digital gender divide — Insights from academia” at the CODE online forum, moderated by Dr Winfred Onyas (University of Leicester/Principal Investigator, CODE), convened three academic experts: Dr Sheena Lovia Boateng (University of Ghana), Dr Rebecca Namatovu-Dawa (Copenhagen Business School) and Dr Lilia Giugni (Cambridge University/Gender Consultant, CODE) to provide academic and research-based perspectives on the digital gender divide in Africa.         On the 20th of January we hosted the CODE Forum, an online event which brought together digital stakeholders from Ghana, Uganda, the UK and across the globe to share ideas about how the African digital gender divide can be addressed.
